MOSCOW, 11th October. Two-day international conference devoted to Afghanistan security threats continues in Moscow.
The event was organized by Russian ministry of defense. Representatives of SCO, CSTO and CIS are participating. 1st vice-president of Afghanistan Abdul Rashid Dustum acts for his country at the forum.
Speaking at the conference opening, Russian minister of defense Sergey Shoigu expressed dismay at the Islamic State (ISIS) activities growth in Afghanistan. This problem requires international cooperation to be dealt with, he claimed.
In his turn, GRU chief Lieutenant-General Igor Sergun stated that there are about 40 thousands Taliban insurgents, about 3,5 thousands ISIS insurgents and more than 4,5 thousands ISIS sympathizers in the country. He believes that ISIS will try to augment its fighting potential through ethnic minorities.
