MOSCOW, September 15th. The 'Islamic State' extremist group obtained control on some drug smuggling channels from Afghanistan, Russian permanent representative at UN said.Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting, Vitaliy Churkin claimed that 'Islamic State' leaders try to control drug traffic from Afghanistan. They already control some smuggling routes in Badakhshan, as his words were quoted by 'RIA News' agency.
In the year 2014 Afghanistan produced 85% of all opium and 77% of all heroin worldwide. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, drug production is of 13% of all Afghanistan GDP.
As head of FDCS Victor Ivanov has said before, drug production in Afghanistan increased fiftyfold during NATO presence and continues to grow nowadays. Last year poppy cultivation area reached 224 thousand hectares.
