On the eve, Second Vice-President of Afghanistan Mohammad Karim Khalili met with Russian ambassador to Kabul Andrei Avetisyan and discussed the situation in Afghanistan and its influence on the entire region’s stability and also bilateral cooperation.
During the talks, the two sides emphasized the need to resume cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan. For one, the Russian ambassador described as an important event the participation of the Afghan delegation headed by Mohammad Karim Khalili in the recent summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in St. Petersburg.
The Afghan Vice-President spoke highly of the level of trust between the two countries and pointed to the need of promoting cooperation, especially in trade and economic area. “We pin hope on the role of the recently established Russian-Afghan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation,” Mohammad Karim Khalili said.
The Vice-President also welcomed Russia’s readiness to invest in the CASA-1000 project implementation of which will pave the way for supplying electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. He emphasized that the given project would be beneficial for all countries in the region.
