Russia, India and China propose to work out a collective strategy to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and hope for a favourable response from the US. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at his meeting with reporters on the way from the Indian city of Bangalore where he attended the meeting of the foreign ministers from the three countries.
“The three countries could work out a collective strategy with other countries and they are ready to do so. I hope the Obama Administration will use the capability of Afghanistan’s neighbours and other countries in the region to stimulate Afghan groups to achieve a common understanding on how to decide their fate jointly,” Russian Foreign Minister told reporters.
According to Lavrov, indefinite presence of US forces in Afghanistan is advantages for neither Afghanistan nor the region as a whole. Moreover, the permanent American presence in the region contradicts the US interests.
Sergei Lavrov said Russia was ready to study the supply of light fire arms for the Afghan police. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, Moscow is ready to resume the supply of weapons to Afghanistan.
