If NATO withdraws from Afghanistan Taliban might move towards the Central Asia and the Caucasus. Speaking to reporters in Brussels Russia’s envoy to the alliance Dmitri Rogozin expressed this concern.
According to the Russian diplomat, an untimely pullout of the NATO forces from Afghanistan will be disastrous to the country and the region as a whole.” If NATO capitulates and flees from Afghanistan the neighbouring countries may face a disastrous situation, said the envoy. According to Rogozin, if this happened Taliban will move to the Central Asia and the Caucasus.
“This will be a global headache,” Dmitri Rogozin emphasized.
“Russia helps NATO to transport its cargo through the country and to train specialists for Afghanistan. However, it wishes to know about NATO plans in Afghanistan in detail,” Russia’s envoy said.
Earlier, Deputy Tajic Defence Minister Lieutenant-General Ramil Nadyrov expressed his concerns over possible worsening situation in northern Afghanistan.
Observers say the situation in the northern province of Kunduz is sharply worsening. Reportedly, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and Taliban have lately stepped up their activity.
Meanwhile, this has prompted the former Soviet republics along the northern border of Afghanistan to pay greater attention to strengthening joint rapid reaction force, which is being formed under the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Last week, the Tajic authorities supported an idea of holding joint tactical exercises involving Russian and Tajic forces.
