According to the director of Emergency Situations Ministry’s international activity department, Yuri Brazhnikov, Russia will supply Afghanistan with some 23 thousand tons of flour and vehicles this year.
“The Ministry has delivered 18 thousand tons of high quality flour to Afghanistan since the 15th of January,” the official said. Flour is transported by 274 wagons. According to the official, over half of the wagons carrying flour have already been sent, and the Emergency Situations Ministry of the Russian Federation plans to complete the humanitarian mission within a month.
Reportedly, in response to a request by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai to the Russian leaders the Russian government took a decision to supply 18 thousand tons of flour to Afghanistan. The first two wagons carrying Russian humanitarian aid arrived in the Afghan city of Hairaton on the border with Uzbekistan on the 8th of February. Russia has already sent 105 railway wagons with flour packed in bags.
