Zamir Kabulov: Russia is ready to render assistance in reorganizing the Afghan army

US-led international coalition has done a quite lot in Afghanistan, but unfortunately, has failed to fulfill the main task of guaranteeing security and stability in the country. In an interview with the Voice of Russia Russian ambassador to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov made this statement.

“Unfortunately thousands of Afghan civilians and hundreds of servicemen of the international coalition continue to die in Afghanistan. All this shows that serious mistakes were made in realizing the western strategy in Afghanistan and these mistakes have to be taken into account and correct and must try to pursue the strategy with the Afghan people until the end,” Russian ambassador to Kabul noted. According to Zamir Kabulov, there is a need to put an end to terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking so that Afghanistan become a deserved member of the international community and a state that lives peacefully and in harmony with its all neighbours.

The Russian diplomat said: “there were various pages in our 90-year history and sometimes they were mournful but when glancing at entire period of bilateral relations and unbiased researcher admits that there were many good pages in Russian-Afghan relations”. Zamir Kabulov said: “This is a solid foundation that opens the ways and prospects for promoting bilateral relations further. We are two people close to each other and we have lots of common things in both historical and cultural areas. When the Soviet Union existed we were neighbours and the USSR made a large contribution to economical and social modernization of the Afghan state. Over 140 economic facilities were built in Afghanistan with the Soviet assistance and all this is a good foundation for promoting relations further”.

“The drafting an agreement is near completion and the document concerns the bilateral cooperation in fighting against narcotic production. According to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, in response to a request by Afghan President Hamid Karzai Russia is ready to help reorganizing the Afghan Army,” Zamir Kabulov said.
