Russia grant permits to Spain and Germany

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev signed a decree that grants permission for the transit of Spanish military contingent and weaponry to Afghanistan through the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Adopt a proposal by the government of the RF on the signing of an agreement between the government of RF and the Kingdom of Spain on the transit of military property and personnel through the territory of the RF in view of the involvement of the Spanish servicemen in the efforts to stabilize and reconstruct the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,” a decree released by the Kremlin press service says.
The President instructed the Russian Foreign Minister to sign the above mentioned agreement and allowed him to make minor amendments to the draft document in case of necessary.
Today’s report says that Russia has allowed Germany to transport the military hardware, equipment and property of the German army to Afghanistan through its territory. This was announced by a Russian Foreign Ministry official Andrei Nesterenko.
“This will be the first such experience in Russia’s relations with a foreign country that take into account close cooperation with Germany in countering common challenges and threats to security,” the report quotes the diplomat as saying.
Nesterenko reminded that the Russian President and the German Chancellor had spoken highly of experience gained in practical cooperation worked out in the bilateral format applied to Afghanistan and insisted on its expansion at the tenth Russian-German intergovernmental consultations at the high-level.
