Russia is worried by the growing number of casualties among civilians in Afghanistan and urges the coalition forces under NATO command to avert civilian losses when they carry out operations. The Russian ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin stated this addressing a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on the 9th of July.
“Russia is alarmed by growing civilian losses in Afghanistan as a result of recent operations carried out by International Security Assistance forces. Many people were killed by air strikes carried out mistakenly. Russia emphasizes the need for bringing to naught the damage to the civilians,” the Russian ambassador said.
